Building Stable Relationships For Home Owners And Horses
When I starting looking for local rescue groups to volunteer my time I found out about a feed-lot in south Jersey. Horses here are at the end of their line with a last chance to find a home, be purchased by a broker to continue through the auction circuit or end up on a truck bound for slaughter in Canada or Mexico. I knew we had to help! ~ Tara Stone
My next visit was to Helping Hearts Equine Rescue a 501(c)3 Non-Profit animal welfare organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of equines in need; assisting equines in situations of neglect, abuse or threat of slaughter. This wonderful group along with a 20,000+ network of people and other rescues across the country work daily to fulfill their mission of helping America’s horses.
Meet Bishop, he is the most recent addition to our family and a rescue from an auction kill Pen. Follow Bishop’s Progress on Facebook by clicking on his photo and “like” his page.
No Matter what you are looking for, it is likely the perfect horse is waiting for you at one of these wonderful rescues. Please consider adopting, supporting and spreading the word about these wonderful equines in need of your help.

He’s over 18 hh tall, and severely under weight. Bentley was rescued from a slaughter bound truck in April of 2009. He was adopted to people who were not able to give Bentley the care he needed, by the time HHER learned what was truly happening with this big guy this is the state he was in. He will easily eat 12 qts of feed a day and when the grass is not so lush, a bale of hay a day. His feet are in need of immediate care and a full Vet exam was performed 12/1/2011. Right now his biggest issue appears to be lack of enough food. At full weight he could easily eat a full bale of hay per day along with 12qts of grain. 10% Of any personal commission I receive will be donated to Helping Hearts Equine Rescue to help support Bentley and the many wonderful animals in their care. ~ Tara |
Meet Archie- 5 yr old, 16.2 hh OTTB
Nov. 8, ’11 update: Archie is doing wonderfully. Under saddle he is proving to be a pleasure/trail type. I don’t see him as a “competitive dynamo”, he’s just a nice, big, “bop-around” guy — check out his video from yesterday —http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uykwP51HNlI – first time being ridden outside here by the way.
Archie is 5 yrs old, and 16.2 hh. He’s been “Archie” since he was a foal. Research done on his lip tattoo revealed that his JC name is Formipelis, by Waquoit, out of Mysterious Ways. “Archie” was unsuccessful as a racehorse, he only had one start, winning a mere $175. One start is not a bad thing. I remember his breeder saying he was so big, he couldn’t get out of his own way. He ran thru Camelot Sales in February, 2010, as a 4 yr old OTTB Geld. Click on Archie’s Picture for more details! His Current Adoption fee is ADOPTED!
